World Travel. Family Discovery.

Where the wild things are...  your family discovers the spirit of adventure witnessing the "Big Five" during morning, afternoon and evening safari game drives... a two-million-year-old crater... Mt. Kilimanjaro.... elephant herds that dwarf their neighbors, antelope, zebra, gazelle... buffalo, wildebeest and long-necked giraffes..  and in the Serengeti, golden-maned lions playing their part in the circle of life.

Wake up to views of Mt. Kilimanjaro from your African lodge... and discover who lives on the slopes of this mighty mountain. Experience the real life home of Maasai warriors and Africa's Big Five. Get a true taste of daily life in the African bush when you learn how to make beaded jewelry and throw a spear, and go inside a village school. You may see lions resting under enormous baobab trees... wildebeest making their way past herds of elephants and gazelles... elephants, up close. Travel aboard our open-top Africa safari vehicles where everyone has a great view of Tanzania's amazing wildlife during morning and afternoon game drives. Your Tauck Director provides a window into an unknown, unseen world that introduces Tanzania's nocturnal society, revealing what would normally be hidden in darkness... And from your tented camp in "the place where life began".... to your lodge next to Africa's "Garden of Eden"... to your safari lodge in the Serengeti, your family becomes part of the unbelievable wilderness pageant that comes alive right outside your door! Private game drives throughout your trip

Days 2 – 9

See Tanzania's wildlife from open-topped safari vehicles

On most days of your Tauck family safari, you'll hop aboard your open-top safari vehicle – most of which seat six passengers to a car, with a window seat for everyone – and make tracks on a game drive across the classic African savannah stretching out before you, in search of the "Big Five" (lions, Cape buffalo, black rhinos, leopards and African elephants) plus zebra, gazelles, antelope, wildebeest, giraffes, impalas and more. And guiding you on your trek are our expert drivers, trackers, rangers, and Tauck Directors... all well-versed in the local geography and wildlife, and eager to share their knowledge while keeping everyone engaged, safe and sound. It's truly the adventure of a lifetime!

Soaring over the Serengeti

Day 8

Hot air ballooning over the Serengeti plains

Wake up before the animals do as you climb aboard a private hot air balloon at dawn for a ride over the savanna and open woodlands of Serengeti National Park... "the place where the land moves on forever." From your perch in the sky, you'll have a birds-eye view of vast herds of animals like zebras, giraffes and elephants as they start their day in the wilderness... then touch down for your own breakfast in the bush!

Meet the Maasai people

Learn the ways of the Maasai at a traditional boma

A highlight of your family's Tanzania safari is your visit to a Maasai boma – a nomadic village preserving traditonal Maasai cultural customs, consisting of small huts made of mud and cow dung for sleeping and cooking. Can you picture living here with your family? During your visit, Maasai villagers will demonstrate their spear-throwing, bow-and-arrow and other traditional skills. You'll also have an opportunity to visit a local primary school to talk with the children and their teacher.

Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti

Days 7, 8 and 9

A safari lodge your family will love

Ever gone swimming... next to an elephants' watering hole? During your family's stay at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, you will! Set within Serengeti National Park, this luxury safari lodge puts you where the wildlife action is… and serves as a perfect base from which your family will go on safari drives and learn skills from the Maasai. But you really need to check out the infinity pool. It's a great place to hang out and watch the wildlife up close, because it overlooks the animals' own five-star watering hole – a favorite bathing spot for local elephants!
