Waiver of Liability for COVID-19

The safety and comfort of our guests has always been of paramount concern to Tauck. We have worked diligently to give you the peace of mind you expect.  However, there is no way to eliminate all possible risks while traveling and Tauck therefore cannot assume liability in the unlikely event you contract COVID-19.  This is the reason for the necessity of the following waiver of liability:

The novel coronavirus, Covid-19, (herein “COVID-19) has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. As a result, federal, state and local governments have recommended physical distancing, limiting group sizes in some locations and wearing face coverings.

Tauck, Inc. (“Tauck”) has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. However, Tauck cannot guarantee that you or your travel party will not become infected with Covid-19. In fact, traveling on a Tauck trip and participating in its activities could increase your risk of contracting COVID-19.

By signing this agreement, I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that I may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by participating in the Tauck trip and that such infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and death. I understand that the risk of becoming infected by COVID-19 on a Tauck trip may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of myself and others, including, but not limited to Tauck employees, suppliers (and their employees) and other passengers. I understand that complete knowledge of the risk factors of contracting COVID-19 is not complete and that unknown or unanticipated risks may result in injury, illness, death or any other loss. I agree that having considered these risks, I desire to participate in the tour and I freely and voluntarily assume complete personal responsibility for the risk of exposure, illness and death due to COVID-19, even if such injuries or death occur in a manner that is not foreseeable at the time this agreement is signed.

I for myself, and on behalf of my and their heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin voluntarily agree to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility for any injury (including, but not limited to personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability or expense of any kind that I may experience or incur in connection with my Tauck trip and its activities (“Claims”). I hereby release, covenant not to sue, discharge and hold harmless Tauck, its employees, agents, and representatives, of and from the Claims. Including all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs or expenses of any kind arising out of or related thereto. I understand and agree that this release includes any Claims based on the actions, omissions, or negligence of Tauck, its employees, agents and representatives, whether a COVID-19 infection occurs before, during, or after participation in any Tauck trip.

I agree that if any portion is found to be void or unenforceable, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect. No additions, deletions or changes can be made to the release form, and signing it is a requirement for joining the trip.

Planning Your Trip

Which tours and cruises is Tauck operating?

By July, Tauck will be operating all tours in the USA. Europe is currently in the process of welcoming back visitors and we are working to significantly increase the number of operating tours and cruises starting in August.

To start planning, visit our new Open for Travel page for the most up-to-date listing of trips operating in 2021. For the status of our tours and cruises by destination, visit our Travel Updates Page. These pages are updated frequently.

Will Tauck be operating my tour or cruise? How will that decision be made? And when will I find out?

If you are scheduled to travel with us on a cancelled journey, you will receive an email from Tauck detailing your options, or your travel advisor will contact you. We are reaching out to guests and travel advisors in chronological order, beginning with those guests scheduled to travel soonest, and we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding. Please know that when conditions allow, we are primed and ready to operate.

Please check our Travel and Health pages often for the latest information.

What will the health & safety protocols be on my tour or cruise (for dining, indoor venues, coaches, etc.)?

Health and safety protocols vary county-to-county, state-to-state, and even town-to-town. Tauck and our suppliers are committed to following local mandates and requirements. Because the guidelines can change quickly, often without notice, it is not possible for us to provide detailed protocols for your itinerary. Some destinations and suppliers may require masks and physical distancing even for vaccinated guests. Examples of other measures that may be required based on venue and location are: distanced seating for outdoor and indoor dining, no self-service buffets, use of disposable utensils/plate/cups at dining venues, staggered admission times to enter museums, etc. Note that current measures are likely to be different by the time you travel. Tour Directors will have the most up-to-date information and will share with guests.

Do guests booking a 2022 tour or cruise still have to sign Tauck’s Travel Well Pledge and Waiver of Liability for COVID-19, and either be vaccinated or take a COVID-19 test, prior to departure?

2022 tours and cruises are still a long way away and, as we all know, a lot can change in a year or so. Currently, our policies apply to all future bookings until conditions allow us to change them.

Requirements for Covid-19 Testing or Vaccination

Do all Tauck guests need to be tested for COVID-19?

Consistent with CDC guidelines, all Tauck guests must either be fully vaccinated, have received a negative PCR COVID-19 test within 3 days of departure for their journey, or have proof of full recovery from COVID-19.

Testing and other requirements may vary by destination and could go beyond Tauck’s requirements. Please see Question 5 below.

Do children under age 16 need to be tested?

Regardless of age, any guest not fully vaccinated must still have proof of a negative result from a PCR COVID-19 test taken within 3 days prior to the start of their Tauck journey.

What COVID-19 test do I need to take?

You need to take a PCR test (also known as a Molecular or NAAT test). This type of test will detect an active COVID-19 infection. A PCR test is a very accurate and common diagnostic test for COVID-19. Tauck currently does not accept Antigen and Antibody tests as alternatives to the more accurate PCR test.

For those who are not fully vaccinated, how long before the start of a tour or cruise does Tauck require a negative PCR COVID-19?

For those who are not fully vaccinated, Tauck’s policy is that proof of a negative result from a PCR COVID-19 is required 3 days prior to the start of your tour or cruise. If you are pre-staying, you should make arrangements to accommodate this timing. If you are taking back-to-back Tauck trips, your Tauck Director will help arrange a test before you start your second trip.

Note, the CDC considers you “fully vaccinated” two weeks after a second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Do guests need to bring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test?

Tauck requires all guests to bring with them one of the following forms of proof in the event it is needed to be presented as a government or supplier requirement during your Tauck trip:

  • A government-issued certificate, such as the CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card, indicating that you are fully vaccinated and received the final required dose at least 14 days prior to the start of your tour or cruise.
  • A laboratory-issued, dated negative result from a PCR COVID-19 test taken within 3 days prior to the start of your Tauck journey; or,
  • Proof of full recovery from COVID-19 within the last 3 months.

We recommend that in addition to the original paper copy of your documentation, that you also bring a photograph of your proof on a mobile device as a backup.

Testing and vaccine requirements vary by destination and across airlines, and may go above and beyond Tauck’s requirements. It is the sole responsibility of each guest to understand the entry requirements specific to their upcoming tour or cruise. Tour-specific travel requirements may be found on the COVID-19 Entry Requirements page.

Are there other testing requirements that I need to be aware of?

Testing and other requirements vary by destinations, and across airlines, and this can impact requirements on a tour-by-tour basis. Please check with your airline(s) and destinations(s) to confirm their requirements, which may be different than Tauck’s Tour-specific travel and entry requirements can be found on tauck.com on our Covid-19 Entry Requirements page.

What about a guest who has recovered from COVID-19 and receives a false positive result within 90 days of departure?

If you have had a positive COVID-19 test in the past 3 months, and are fully recovered, you may travel with documentation of your positive test result and a letter from your healthcare provider or a public health official that states you have been cleared for travel.

Vaccinated Guests

Is Tauck planning to require that all guests be vaccinated before traveling on a tour or cruise?

At this time, there is no overarching requirement that all guests be vaccinated as a condition to travel with Tauck. However, in destinations where vaccination is a requirement for entry into a country and/or admission to local establishments such as trains, museums and restaurants, Tauck guests must be fully vaccinated. Tour specific requirements may be found on our COVID-19 Entry Requirements page. If you are fully vaccinated, you do not need to have a negative PCR test prior to departure for your trip, unless it is required by your destination.

Unvaccinated guests may need to be tested more frequently during their tour or cruise. Guests will not be compensated for missed tour components due to test scheduling or delayed test results.

Local or national protocols, such as CDC guidelines in the US, may result in vaccinated guests having freedoms (e.g. removing masks) that unvaccinated guests do not have.

Do Tauck guests who are fully vaccinated still have to take the Travel Well Pledge and Waiver of Liability for Covid-19?

Yes, all Tauck guests traveling will have to sign our Travel Well Pledge and COVID-19 Liability Waiver on the first day of their journey. When conditions allow, our travel requirements and health and safety policies will change accordingly.

During Your Travels

Do I have to wear a mask on tour?

The answer to this question may vary depending upon your tour destination. Please anticipate the following:

  • All guests must wear masks on tour and on the coach wherever mandated by local regulations or supplier protocols.
  • Unvaccinated guests must continue to wear masks in both indoor and outdoor public spaces, including on the coach.
  • When there is no specific mask mandate by local regulations or supplier protocols, consistent with CDC guidelines, vaccinated guests may choose whether or not to wear a mask.
  • Outside the USA, masks are still required in most indoor and/or public venues and vehicles, even for vaccinated guests.
  • Guests must follow the instruction of their Tauck Directors regarding mask protocols regardless of vaccination status.

Are Tauck Directors required to have a negative COVID-19 test prior to each tour they lead? What happens if they work tours back-to-back?

Tauck Directors will be required to have a negative PCR COVID-19 test within the 5 days leading up to the start of their tour series. They will follow the same Health & Safety protocols as the guests while on tour. If there is a gap between tours they lead, they will be tested again before their next tour.

Are Tauck Directors required to get a vaccine?

We anticipate that our Tauck Directors will adhere to the same guidelines our guests follow, as mandated by the countries where they work.

Based on Tauck’s policy requiring that guests be vaccinated for tours and cruises in Europe for 2021, are Tauck Directors in Europe required to be vaccinated?

Yes. We anticipate that Tauck Directors in Europe will be fully vaccinated based on current projections of local vaccine roll-out.

If there is a COVID-19 outbreak on a tour or ship, are vaccinated guests exempt from quarantine?

We cannot say exactly what will happen at this time since each situation is unique. We will follow the expertise and guidelines of the local health authorities where we are traveling.

Do guests on back-to-back Tauck trips have to be tested again?

Yes, even if you are coming from another Tauck trip, guests joining a new tour must receive a negative result from a PCR COVID-19 test taken within 3 days prior to the new trip. Your Tauck Director will help arrange testing and Tauck will cover the cost of the test to join another trip.

Will Tauck assist guests and cover the cost of any testing that may be required for transiting between countries while on tour?

Yes, Tauck will arrange tests and cover the cost of this on-tour expense.

Will Tauck assist guests and cover the cost of the current CDC requirement of being tested before returning home to the USA?

Tauck will arrange testing prior to the last day of the tour. The cost of this test is not covered by Tauck. Arrangements will be made for guests to pay the vendor directly. Those staying longer in a destination after the tour has ended may need to arrange their own testing to meet return-home requirements.

If a guest shows symptoms of COVID-19 while on a tour, will they be required to take a test? What happens with the other guests? Will they have to quarantine?

We will follow our existing policy of taking care of the guest as we would any sick guest. Our staff, in conjunction with local authorities will work with the guest to determine if testing is required. We will follow the policies of local authorities regarding the testing of other guests, required quarantines, etc. Coverage for medical costs depends on the individual insurance of each guest as well as the regulations of the local government.
