Experiences of a lifetime

Naturally Inspiring… There are wonders to behold at every turn in Costa Rica, from nature’s exquisitely adorned treasures to man-made gems glittering in gold. Sugar-sand beaches kiss aquamarine seas. Jeweled hummingbirds, candy-striped toucans and equally resplendent Quetzals flirt with porcelain-winged butterflies dressed in electric blue...

A place where jungles run wild and volcanoes simmer, Costa Rican landscapes also play host to coffee plantations, richly rewarding; pineapple plantations, organically inspired; gardens, butterfly-filled, in a cloud forest... and eco-resorts, naturally nurturing. Spending a week here is an adventure that touches body, mind and soul with zip-lining and horseback rides, float trips on jungle rivers and a lake cruise, insider visits to a farmer’s home on a jungle river, a coffee farm and a farewell celebration at an artisan chocolatier in San José, all from equally colorful Costa Rican hideaways that promise an authentic glimpse of paradise. Monteverde's Selvatura Hanging Bridges

A walk through the treetops of a cloud forest

Costa Rica's Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve protects one of the most ecologically diverse – and famous – cloud forests in the world. On your visit to the Reserve's Selvatura Park – whose popular Hanging Bridges invite you to walk through the treetops of the cloud forest canopy – you'll take a guided two-hour nature walk with naturalists who provide an insider’s perspective and informative overview of the cloud forest eco-system. Stroll past tall trees festooned with orchids, bromeliads, moss, and ferns... all the while keeping a sharp lookout for wildlife that might include jungle cats, monkeys, tapirs, and birds like the three-wattled bellbird.

Artisan chocolate in San José

Indulgent discoveries at Sibú

What grows on trees, starts as fruit, is dried, roasted, ground up and enjoyed by visitors to Costa Rica? If you answered "coffee," you’d be correct, of course... but so would "chocolate." In San José, you'll see just how right you are as you watch how cacao fruit is transformed into artisan chocolate that melts in your mouth during a delicious experience that includes a hands-on demonstration, dinner, and chocolate tasting at Sibú, a noted organic artisan chocolatier.

Tabacon Grand Spa & Thermal Resort

Nights 2 and 3

Relax and rejuvenate with Earth's healing thermal powers

The four elements of nature – the heat of a volcano... the flowing waters of the Tabacon hot springs... the pure air of the rainforest... and the fertile earth of Costa Rica's Fortuna de San Carlos region – combine to offer you the ultimate experience of a thermal "paradise on Earth" during your stay at Tabacon Grand Spa & Thermal Resort, a luxury resort set at the base of Costa Rica's Arenal Volcano. A member of The Leading Hotels and The Leading Spas of the World, this unique resort's Grand Spa has been recognized as one of the best mineral spas on Earth.

Tauck's Costa Rica Adventure was the best vacation I've ever been on; as a single person on a tour, it was a total joy to be with a group of 28 people.

I loved every bit of it. I was glad we could come a day early, and I could take advantage of the walking tour around San Jose, which was so interesting. Then we were glad to get out of the city and into the green countryside (though I really liked the Grana de Oro). The food at the the Riverside restaurant was some of the best on the trip.

Most Memorable Moment:

Zip lining (scary), Night nature walk (inspiring). Activities in general were lots of fun and educational, not too difficult.

We started this tour the day after we completed the Costa Rica-Panama Canal Tour. Some tours, while repeated, were at different venues, so not overly repetitive. I strongly suggest you bring sweater, sweatshirt, long pants and a light pair of gloves for the days in the Rain Forest. It is chilly and damp. Even rains/mists when the sun is shining.

Most Memorable Moment:

The Toucan Rescue Ranch! An amazing non-profit which we have immediately added to our annual giving accounts. It is truly a rescue ranch. The goal is to rehab and teach each of the animals, birds, etc to become free and independent. There are exceptions - baby sloth - no right arm - adorable.
