Discover remnants of ancient Mayan civilizations or get up close and personal with local wildlife... all options are on the table for this 10-day Tauck Cancun vacation.

Cultural journeys and expeditions

Feel the thrill of discovery deep in the jungles of Guatemala and on the sea-cliffs of Mexico... the lure of ancient mysteries, hieroglyphs, and stone jaguar masks... close encounters with howler monkeys and manta rays... Garifuna dances in Livingston... and the easy, welcoming smiles of modern-day Mayans along the Rio Dulce...

Explore "lost" Mayan cities and breathtaking nature reserves on this 10-day journey to Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras, including a 7-night cruise aboard the Ponant yacht Le Champlain. Visit Tulum, a Mayan trading port guarded by high walls and sea cliffs overlooking the Caribbean. Discover the jungle city of Copán, with its complex of ruined temples, sculptures, pyramids, and towering hieroglyphic stairway... Tikal, one of the grandest ruins in Mesoamerica, a Mayan city-state of massive pyramids that flourished between 600 BC and 900 AD... Lamanai, the "Submerged Crocodile," a Mayan complex of huge stone temples and "masks" in Belize, where crocodiles and brilliantly colored birds inhabit the surrounding rainforest... and Altun Ha, a Mayan enclave of exquisite jade sculptures and artifacts. Sail to Half Moon Caye, a protected island in the Lighthouse Reef Atoll, where the waters are crystal clear and eagle rays and sea turtles abound, for exciting snorkeling and kayaking. Take your choice of shore excursions, including guided jungle river-cruises... a visit to a howler monkey sanctuary... and a spectacular cave-walk at Aktun-Chen, an ecopark in Belize... cooking lessons and tequila-tasting in Cancún... or beach-combing and jungle walks in Guatemala's wildlife-rich Biosphere with a naturalist guide. The Explorer-class yacht Le Champlain offers the best in small-ship cruising, with sophisticated styling, spacious accommodations, and large windows.

Río Secreto

The underground wonders of Río Secreto

Take a magical journey through the crystal caves and the underground river called Río Secreto, in Mexico’s Riviera Maya about an hour south of Cancun. See myriad geological formations with thousands of dramatic stalactites and stalagmites, and float in clear fresh water underground. Part of a semi-sunken underground river system that you can both hike along and float on, Río Secreto – only recently discovered in the early 2000’s – could very well be one of the great world wonders. Experience it for yourself, and witness something mysterious and truly spectacular. Lunch is included at a Playa del Carmen restaurant.

Howler Monkeys in Belize

A unique opportunity to see howler monkeys close up

Although the locals call them “baboons,” they are really Black Howler Monkeys – and at the Community Baboon Sanctuary in Belize, founded in 1985, you’ll have a chance to see these amazing primates close up. What began with 12 private landowners agreeing to preserve their land as a habitat for endangered black howler monkeys has expanded to include some 200 landowners in seven different villages... in an innovative experiment in sustainable ecotourism that protects the habitat for these endangered animals while offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience the rainforest and witness Black Howler Monkeys in the wild.

An excursion to Mayan Copan

The Mayan city of Copan in Honduras

Considered one of the most spectacular cities of the ancient Maya civilization, Copan is a ruins complex known for its beautiful stone temples, altars, hieroglyphs, and stelae. Built between 400 and 800 AD in what is now Honduras, the city was suddenly abandoned around 800 AD, after constant droughts had destroyed vital crops and resources. It wasn’t until 1975 that excavations – still ongoing – began to uncover the mysteries behind the history of this lost city, once home to approximately 25,000 people. Today, the Mayan Ruins of Copan, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as among the region’s most important and impressive Mayan ruins.
