Machu Picchu mysteries

Day 5

Exploring mystical Machu Picchu with your family

The abandoned Incan "city" of Machu Picchu in Peru's Andes Mountains is a mystery. No one knows for sure why it was built, some 500 years ago – or why it was deserted. In fact, this ancient citadel was hidden from the western world until Hiram Bingham, an archaeologist from Yale University who was searching for other ruins from the empire of the Incas, stumbled upon it by accident in 1911. Maybe you and your family will figure it out as you explore this amazing maze of a place, with what experts guess was a palace, dungeons, and over 100 staircases.

Painting Peruvian pottery

Secrets of ancient artisans at a Peruvian pottery studio

In Peru's Sacred Valley, a visit to a renowned pottery studio reveals some of the hidden meanings behind the sacred symbols that ancient Peruvian artisans used to decorate their creations... and offers you a hands-on opportunity to put your creative spirit to use and paint your own inspired work of ceramic art.

I loved it because I met new people that were nice. We also explored Macchu Picchu which was really fun!

Great trip. This has been on our bucket list for a while and it did not disappoint. Our Tour director was wonderful and had great attention to detail. Our local guide was our Mama Lama. She was a wealth of information about the Andean culture. She showed great enthusiasm that rubbed off on the kids. Don't wait take this trip.

Most Memorable Moment:
